About the USF Health Service Corps

This USF Health-wide, interdisciplinary student group is designed to facilitate a new process through which USF Health students in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and Physical Therapy can participate in service activities together. The USF Health Service Corps is sponsored by the USF Area Health Education Center and has its own Coordinator who assists the USF Health students in planning, implementing and evaluating service activities.

In the past, each College has initiated its own service activities, e.g. National Primary Care Week, Public Health Week, Nurses Week, health fairs, school physicals and more. However, there has been little interdisciplinary collaboration between Colleges for these events. The purpose of the USF Health Service Corps is to facilitate opportunities for students in all areas of the USF Health to work together on specific time-limited service events, as well as new ongoing service learning projects throughout the year.

The USF Health Service Corps is designed primarily for USF Health Sciences Center students. For some events, there will be opportunities for USF undergraduate pre-health professional students to become involved.

Both short- and long-term service events and projects are offered throughout the year in the greater Tampa area as well as in nearby rural areas. Students can learn more about these opportunities at the USF Health Service Corps Events and Projects page and via the USF Health Service Corps Calendar.

Students who become involved in the USF Health Service Corps can:

  • Relax, have fun and make new friends throughout the Health Sciences Center
  • Gain great work experience through service
  • Meet and network with future employers
  • Earn recommentations for future jobs
  • Learn about new career opportunities
  • Mentor college undergraduates and high school students
  • Build an impressive resume
  • ...and earn awards

As a USF Health student, what can I do to become involved?

  1. Select an event/project of interest to you from the USF Health Service Corps Events and Projects page or the USF Health Service Corps Calendar.
  2. Email the contact person listed for that specific event/project.
  3. Participate! Have fun!
  4. Start your own personal USF Health Service Log. Download the form and save it to your own computer. Continue to record your hours on this form whenever you perform a service activity. This log will be beneficial to you in updating your resume and can also be used to earn awards at future USF Health Service Corps recognition events.
