Policy Statement

 

In general, all resident training experiences should be within facilities approved by the respective RRC, under the supervision of USF faculty.  Occasionally, and for brief periods, residents may be authorized to participate in an extramural training experience.

 

Each experience must be approved individually by the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.  Such experience must have legitimate justification of intent and adequacy.  Provision must be made for continuation of salary, benefits and assurance of professional liability coverage.

Procedure

 

Responsible Party                                        Action

 

Resident                                                           Submits written request for extramural rotation to the department.

 

Program Director                                     Verifies appropriateness of extramural rotation.

Obtains approval from Associate Dean for GME.

 

Associate Dean for GME Verifies that extramural rotation is in full compliance with all institutional and program-specific requirements.

 

Verifies continuation of salary, benefits and professional liability coverage.
