Policy Statement

From time to time, the reduction or closure of a residency-training program may be necessary due to a decrease in funding, lack of required number of qualified residents, faculty issues, etc.  In the event of such a reduction or closure, the USF College of Medicine will immediately notify all residents whose continued medical training will be affected.

Should a program require reduction in the resident complement or total closure, all efforts will be made to afford the affected resident the means to continue his/her training, i.e., program continuation until training completed or assistance in transferring to another residency training program.

Procedure

Responsible Party                                             Action

Program Director                                              Ensures that any and all residents affected by the reduction and/or closure of a residency training program are advised as soon as possible of the event(s).

Stipulates to the affected resident(s) that he/she will be allowed to continue with training until completed, or assisted in the enrollment at another ACGME-accredited residency training program.
