All residents enrolled in the
residency training programs at the USF College of Medicine are employed in the
University employment category known as OPS (Other Personnel Services). This is a non-typical employment category in
that it provides salary but no benefits or rights to the residents. To cover these issues, the
The Resident Contract provided to each resident outlines the terms and conditions as listed below:
- financial support
- duration of appointment and conditions for reappointment
- professional liability insurance
- disability and health insurance
- vacation policies
- professional, parental and sick leave benefits
- conditions for living quarters, meals and laundry
- counseling services
- resident responsibilities
- grievance procedures
- policy on sexual and other forms of harassment
- professional activities outside the work environment
In regards to financial support,
the GMEC and the Office of Graduate Medical Education review the salary and
benefits of the housestaff on an annual basis.
The University has made a commitment that resident salaries will be
maintained at the seventy-fifth percentile of the AAMC salaries for the
southeastern

Office of GME On an annual basis, reviews the resident contract, including salary and benefits, with assistance by the Graduate Medical Education Council (GMEC) and the Affiliations, Programs and Contracts (APC) Committee.

Office of GME Provides a sample resident contract to each potential resident who is selected for an interview with the USF College of Medicine.
Once a resident is selected for a residency program, completes a contract for each resident, and sends to appropriate Program Director/Education Coordinator for signature by the resident.
Provides the resident with a fully executed copy of his/her resident contract.
Resident Agrees to abide by the policies, procedures and responsibilities as outlined in the Resident Contract.
Office of GME Ensures that a sample contract is available for review by the residents on the Housestaff Website.
