Policy Statement

The USF College of Medicine believes that the use of autopsies is an important tool available to physicians in determining cause of death.  To ensure that residents are educated in this tool, all programs will ensure that each new PGY-1 resident observe an autopsy during his/her first year of training.  A summative report on the autopsy will be received from each resident and made a part of his/her training record.

Residency programs may elect to use an alternative method of assuring participation/education in autopsies.  Programs wishing to implement an alternative method should notify the GMEC in writing for approval.
