the monthly electronic supplement to The CLUE
* UpToDate has company! FIRSTConsult, a new evidence-based electronic primary care clinical information system providing specialized diagnostic tools and continuously updated information on the latest in evaluation and diagnosis, management options, patient outcomes and prevention at the point and time of a clinical encounter, from the makers of MD Consult, is now available online, from the library homepage, Database menu, left side. If you like UpToDate, you will really like the interface features of this new addition to our collection. Check it out, give us feedback...or come on by and we'll give you a guided tour
* NOTE: InfoPOEMS, MD Consult, Stat!Ref, and FIRSTConsult all have PDA versions for you to download
* UpToDate is currently available from the stand-alone computer at the Shimberg Health Sciences Library, and James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center, and Tampa General Hospital also provide access to UpToDate for the staff at those locations
* Quick...what's the official National Library of Medicine abbreviation for the New England Journal of Medicine? If you guessed NEJM, you need to visit the PubMed Journals database, a tool to determine the official abbreviation or, if you have the abbreviation, to determine the actual full name of the journal. Go to the library homepage, last bulleted item under Research Tools, Journal Abbreviations is where you'll discover the truth...just enter the full journal name...and let me know what you find
* Search Tip: For CINAHL users...the Full Text check box in the Refine Search tab is not what it appears to be. Don't EVER use it! Rather, look at each individual itemized citation in the retrieval and click in the Check catalog for journal link and/or the SFX link to search the library catalog for the full text
* Search Tip2: Remember, you may limit PubMed retrieval to only those citations that are available full text online from the USF libraries or the Shimberg library by inputting the following in the PubMed text entry box:
Your term or set # AND loprovusfhslib [filter], e.g., asthma AND loprovusfhslib [filter] or #12 (set number) AND loprovusfhslib [filter]. Need further details? You know where we are
