GENERAL INFORMATION |
|
The division of Medical Practice Management was formed based on concerns of the LCME that medical schools of this country need to begin focusing their attention on exposing medical students and trainees to the cost implications of clinical decisions and equip them with the skills necessary to care for defined populations; manage resources efficiently and function as part of a clinical team in the emerging marketplace. Consequently, just as the medical and scientific content of clinical education changed, a real educational effort regarding the structure, organization and financing of health care, as well as the impact of the systems on professional careers of graduates and trainees was required. The division, through resident orientations, medical grand rounds, introduction to clinical medicine, and various other lectures provides an opportunity for students to focus on the business side of medicine. In addition, through course number *MEL 7323 (The Business of Medicine) and the book entitled "The Business Side of Medicine: A Survival Primer for Medical Students and Residents", students are provided an exposure to the subject. *Previously refered to as 'Managed Care Intregrated Elective' For more information contact : |
