Why Choose USF?
Although we are one of the younger medical schools in the nation, graduating our first class in 1974, we have several advantages related to medical education.
We are conveniently located in the Tampa Bay area with a population of approximately 3 million people. The 2000 Federal Census listed this area as the 5th most ethnically diverse large city in the U.S. We offer you a "living" curriculum that is structured for your success. It carefully integrates basic science learning via lecture, small groups, and labs with heavy doses of clinical training. The clinical skills developed by our graduates are well known to residency directors around the nation as our students enter the highest profile specialties across the spectrum of clinical medicine.
We have the benefit of not having an on-campus teaching hospital. Because we have virtually every important medical facility in the Tampa Bay area as a training partner, we can offer you unique looks at virtually all clinical medical specialties. Our clinical resources are renowned and limitless from transplantation in adults and children to cancer treatment, ophthalmology, radiology, ER, dermatology, primary care, etc., in world class facilities such as the Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa General Hospital, All Children's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, Bayfront Hospital, and two large Veteran's Hospitals you can learn clinical techniques in a variety of settings.
Our program is centered on taking care of the student from admission, through the curriculum to graduation and beyond. Our staff in Admissions, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Diversity is absolutely dedicated to your student needs.
