The USF Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center South is located in the Harbourside Medical Tower adjacent to Tampa General Hospital near downtown Tampa. The Center provides expert evaluation and care for individuals with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders including:
- Parkinsonism
- tremor, dystonia
- chorea, myoclonus,
- and restless legs syndrome.
The Center fosters a multi-disciplinary team approach to provide the highest quality care to patients. The core team includes:
- two movement disorder physicians - Drs. Hauser and Burke,
- a nurse practitioner - Ms. McClain,
- a clinical research administrator,
- clinical coordinators,
- and a social worker.
The mission of the Center is to advance patient care and research in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. The Center emphasizes clinical research, testing new medical and surgical treatments, in order to utilize this knowledge to provide cutting edge care to patients, to serve as an international leader in the advancement of disease management, and to educate students, residents, and other physicians.
Our motto is "Hope through research." Numerous clinical trials are conducted at the Center as we continually strive to develop better treatments. We are a Parkinson Study Group and an NIH Neuroprotective Exploratory Trials (NET-PD) site. Developing medications to slow or stop the progression of disease is a top priority. Patients seen at the Center may be offered an opportunity to participate in clinical trials and we'd be happy to discuss ongoing trials by phone.
