Research

Dr. Garbuzova-Davis received her Masters and PhD degrees in Biology (specialty: Physiology of Man and Animals) from Kharkiv State University, Ukraine. For over twenty years, her research focused upon limbic mechanisms of drug addiction. The Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine then awarded Dr. Garbuzova-Davis a Doctor of Science degree in Biology. Since 2000, the research of Dr. Garbuzova-Davis has centered upon the development of cell therapy to treat neurodegenerative diseases. She is currently investigating effects of stem cells from human umbilical cord blood transplanted into mouse models of ALS and Sanfilippo Syndrome. Her work involves in vitro and in vivo studies, behavioral tests, and immunohistochemical analyses of grafted cells. Presently, one of her particular interests is possible modulation of host immune systems due to transplanted cells.
