Current Research

Dr. Nazian's research interests are broadly focused on the control of reproductive processes in the male with special emphasis on the interactions among the hypothalamus, anterior pituitary and testes. Historically, most of his work has involved the pubertal transition and the endocrine and neuroendocrine factors involved in the control of the onset of puberty and this remains a strong interest. Recent and current projects include studies of an immortalized cell line (GT1) to examine more directly the influence of various hormones, neurotransmitters and neuropeptides on the secretion of GnRH (LHRH); the role of the hormone leptin in male reproductive physiology and puberty; the influence of recently described kisspeptin (metastin) on GnRH secretion at puberty. Ongoing collaborations with individuals from the Department of Physiology & Biophysics as well as the Department of Anatomy are examining the cardiac hormone system and the secretion of insulin from a Sertoli cell/islet cell construc
