Biographical Sketch


Dr. Bengtson received his MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and did his general and child psychiatry training at the University of Florida.

He is board certified in general and child and adolescent psychiatry, and is currently an Associate Professor and Chief of Child Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of South Florida.

His areas of interest include, serious mental disorders impacting children and adolescents including autism and schizophrenia. Additionally he has been involved in research regarding the use and adverse effects of the antipsychotic medications often used in the treatment of serious mental disorders.
